Following chapter 2 of Introducing Autodesk Maya. Why are the planets aligned?

I implemented the following three improvements:

1) Offsetting the starting positions based on the current position of the planets,

2) Making the orbital periods accurate (unfortunately, math was involved),

3) Adding textures from JHT's Planetary Pixel Emporium.
